Yu-Gi-Oh! The Game of Rarities

Yu-Gi-Oh! The Game of Rarities

Unlike other trading card games, Yu-Gi-Oh! is in it’s own class when it comes to card rarities.

Most card games on average have between 3 to 6 types of card rarities. The most standard being common, uncommon, rare, super rare, ultra rare, and secret rare.

Yu-Gi-Oh!, on the other hand, has over 25 rarities.

Below is a complete list of rarities

Common Ultra Rare
Super Rare Secret Rare
Ghost Rare Ultimate Rare
Rare Starfoil Rare
Gold Rare Ghost/Gold Rare
RARITIES Parallel Rare Super Parallel Rare
Mosaic Rare Gold Secret Rare
Platinum Secret Rare Shatterfoil
Platinum Rare Prismatic Secret Rare
Rare Parallel Rare Ultra Parallel Rare
Starlight Rare Collector's Rare
10000 Secret Rare Premium Gold Rare
Ultra Pharaoh's Rare Secret Pharaoh's Rare

With such a diverse selection of rarities, it is hard to decide which one is the best. The most desirable ones being those with the hardest pull rates.

Up until 2019, the top rarities were Ghost rare and Ultimate rare. Since 2019 Konami has introduced 3 new high end rarities to give collectors something valuable to chase. These are Starlight rare, Collector’s rare, and Secret Pharaoh’s Rare.

Here are some of the top cards for each of the chosen rarities:

Ghost Rare

Ultimate Rare

Starlight Rare

Collector's rare

Secret Pharaoh's Rare

As you can see, each of these card rarities have such a different look. This allows the collector to have a diverse collection with each card showing a different type of visual appeal.

Although these cards are cool, they can be very expensive for the average person to go out and purchase. All of the cards shown above will cost over $150 and can get up into the thousands of dollars depending on condition. To check out the current and trending market value of each card, check out https://www.tcgplayer.com/.

Many collectors have purchased these cards in hopes of getting the card graded by PSA grading services. If the card gets a perfect 10 grading, the value becomes extremely greater. Here is a table that showcases the graded population reports of the cards shown above.

These numbers are subject to change as more people search for these cards and send them to PSA. Out of all the graded cards in the table above, only 29% of them were graded a perfect 10. This adds extreme value and collectability to those specific cards.

Konami has done such a great job of creating these desirable cards and continues to expand these rarities with new cards coming out in every set. With each release, there is always a chase card or multiple that the collector wants to obtain.

It feels as though Konami puts more time and effort into making the player and the collector happy. They continue to produce new rarities and find new ways to bring back the old rarities in a new and collectable way.
